I promise you there is other magic than the kind you got to know at your last company Christmas party. And while there is nothing wrong with that kind of magic (just HOW did those knots come apart..!), there is another kind that can help you be happier on a daily basis.

Think of a time when everything just unfolded perfectly for you. Like that time you managed to catch that flight you were late for? Maybe it’s your current living situation with one housemate making you laugh, another one to talk to until late at night, and one that gets you out of your comfort zone just enough. Or the idea you had to bring your neighbour a homemade cake for his birthday, and in return he now drops off his home grown fresh vegetables that you were craving, since your local supermarket doesn’t sell organic fruit & veg. Think of something that just worked for you, something that came to you easy like Sunday morning, something that you could have never constructed in your mind yourself with all its perfect tiny little details. Hold onto that.. (we gonna need that later!)

Our mind is powerful beyond imagining pink elephants (whatever you do, do NOT think of a giant pink elephant riding a tiny tricycle).

That’s magic, too.

We use our mind to get us out of tricky situations. Naturally, when we feel stuck and we don’t know how to achieve something, we start trying to come up with a solution using our magnificent mind, and soon enough our ‘thinking’ turns into worrying.

I know how easily worry and negative thinking can suck you in. Not just because it is so common for a lot of people, but also simply because it gives your mind something to do. Your mind is so used to having something to do, it will forever chase the next thought, if you let it.

Checking the balances of some accumulated debt, or seeing bills come in on a regular basis can easily leave you feeling hopeless, doubting that it will ever be any different. You start focusing on how far away your current job may feel from your dream job, you start focusing on the fact that you have absolutely no clue on how to pay for the qualification that you (think you) need to even apply for that dream job.

Here is your mind trying to do to its job, trying to do what you have taught it, trying to find a logical solution for you. We need money to pay for bills, if there is none, we assume we need to THINK about it a lot to make sure there is some. How else would it happen if not by thinking about it?

While your mind will help you study for that degree you need, it won’t always get you where you want to be. You need it to stay quiet every now and then, to leave room for some other kind of magic. (Here is what I prepared earlier..)

You don’t have to know HOW.

The first self-help book I remember reading, recommended by my favourite husband, was “How Would Love Respond” by Kurek Ashley. One of the key messages I took away from it introduced me to a whole new world of finding solutions, and to the power of manifestation. You don’t need to know HOW to get where you want to be, you only need to know that you will.

Now I can choose to focus on the bills.. I gotta pay ♪♫♬ OR I can choose to focus on the fact that I always have enough. I had enough to pay for the groceries I needed to cook my favourite meal for my friends. I had enough to pay for the insurance for my car. Actually it is set up as a direct debit, so it was paid without me even having to spend one moment worrying about it. (This might not always be the case, not having to worry about the direct debits coming out of your accounts. Then, of course don’t focus on that. Because that sucks. That’s not the point of this exercise. That’s not how the magic will work.)

When I find myself worrying about how to ever figure out how to be in a job that fulfills me, I choose to shift my focus to how the world works for me right now instead. Never, in a million years (and I’m not even exaggerating), could I have come up with every detail of my life right now. It is not just that I couldn’t have known that I would live on an island in the tropics, with my husband. It is all the little details, the things that make me feel comfortable, that teach me new lessons, that make me smile and that make sure I still feel happy living in a tiny room in a house full of pilots.

I wouldn’t have been able to dream this up. But it still happened for me. Some of it might have happened without me actively trying to manifest it, and while I could choose to focus on all the things that I’d like to change, really..  just why would I want to do that? When I have the power to focus on everything that I do have, and how perfectly it all came together for me. There lies the magic.

At every given point in time we have the choice to either focus on all the things that aren’t just quite right yet or aren’t coming easily, or we can choose to focus on the things that come to us without us worrying about how they could ever work out the way we want them to. Then we allow ourselves access to a whole new magical world.

A negative mindset will never give you a positive life.

Once we have found the things that come easily, once we are in this mindset, we can get to feeling that there is always enough. Try it.

“I have enough.”

How does it make you feel? Sometimes you might have to add ‘to pay my bills this month’, but whatever you can find that gives you a real sense of having enough, focus on that.

And then the real magic happens. Some life-changing magic.

“I like understanding that things are always evolving, and while there are many things that could be better where I am, it is not really a problem because “where I am” is constantly changing to something better. I like knowing that as I look for the best things around me where I am, those things become more prevalent in my experience.
It is fun to know that things are always working out for me, and as I watch for the evidence of that, I see more evidence of that every day.”

  1. Thanks for this post. Our thoughts affect who we are and if we want to be positive, people we must begin by focusing on the positive, happy thoughts.

  2. Thanks for sharing! I agree 100%. Positivity is a powerful thing. I would say most days I am pretty positive, but some days it can be difficult to force yourself to look on the positive. I think it takes practice, but worth doing it!

    1. It’s not always easy but I agree, it just takes practice! Those days when I struggle to stay positive also show me how much I want to be positive and much easier it is to navigate through life with a positive mindset 🙂 Thanks for reading Kels!
